Banff and Canmore get creative with Canada Day celebrations  660 News

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Banff and Canmore have adjusted their Canada Day events to make sure the COVID-19 pandemic doesn’t get in the way of celebrations.

There won’t be any parade or group events in the town of Banff this year due to public-health restrictions.

However, Mayor Karen Sorensen says there is a plan to unite people using the St. George church bells while also maintaining physical distancing.

“The bells will kick off with O Canada,” she said. “We’re asking everyone who is in town to join in and sing O Canada from wherever you are. The bells can be heard throughout the community.”

Sorensen added there will also be multiple virtual events people can take part in.

Canmore Mayor John Borrowman has also taken the virtual route, including holding a Lego float competition.

“(The floats) will be judged by an esteemed panel, including myself,” he said.

For those planning on hitting the mountain towns this Canada Day, you are asked to maintain public-health measures.
