'Golden Bachelorette' Joan Vassos on Gerry and Theresa's divorce

Joan Vassos, "The Golden Bachelorette," reveals to USA TODAY's Bryan Alexander whether the divorce of Gerry and Theresa impacted her season.

“Golden Bachelorette” Joan Vassos’ journey to finding the one has officially begun, and Bachelor Nation was seated Wednesday to watch Vassos meet the 24 men vying for the final rose.

“The Golden Bachelor” spin-off will see its leading lady navigate her heart as she meets new men and mourns the loss of her husband of 32 years.

“I deserve to have a second chance at love,” Vassos said in a teaser for the season.

Fans of “The Bachelor” and the B.U. (Bachelor Universe) can expect that this may be the most dramatic season yet. But the teaser is promising something new — it may be the most healing season viewers have seen.

Who is Joan Vassos?

Joan Vassos was one of the 22 women who competed for Gerry Turner's heart in the first-ever “The Golden Bachelor” last year. She chose to wrap up her time on Turner’s season early to take care of her daughter following a difficult childbirth, USA TODAY reported. She is a school administrator, mother of four and grandmother of three, according to ABC. While viewers will have to watch to see who she falls for, Vassos did say she needs an outgoing guy like her late husband, USA TODAY reported.
