The 24-year-old defenceman has submitted a trade request to the club, according to a report from Bally Sports’ Andy Strickland on Thursday.

That followed reports that there had been “some action” regarding the 2016 first-round pick, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, who was surprised Stanley wasn’t part of the package in the deal that sent Nino Niederreiter to the Jets last weekend from the Nashville Predators.

Stanley, taken 18th overall by the Jets in 2016 after trading up to take him from the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL, has been limited to just 13 games this season after dealing with a pair of injuries.

The 6-foot-7 blue-liner played 58 games with the Jets last season, but has been part of a rotation this year with Dylan Samberg, and at times, Ville Heinola and Kyle Capobianco, and has failed to lock down a full-time job in the NHL.

He has a lone assist this season and two goals and 18 points across 108 career NHL games.

Stanley is set to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights at the end of the 2022-23 season.

General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is under no obligation to trade Stanley, with the club having team control until the summer of 2025 when Stanley is 27.

Winnipeg has rarely been in the market for selling low on one of its players, and Cheveldayoff isn’t known to cave to trade demands over the years.

That said, it’s still possible the Jets try and ship Stanley out of town before Friday’s 2 p.m. CT trade deadline.

Dubois “very doubtful” for Friday’s Edmonton test

Pierre-Luc Dubois skated on Thursday morning, but not with the team as it was put through the paces at Canada Life Centre.

Out with a nagging lower-body injury, Dubois skated alone prior to the team’s practice before boarding the team’s charter to Edmonton to face the Oilers on Friday night.

“He’ll skate (Friday) morning, not sure with us or on his own, we’ll see how he feels in the morning,” head coach Rick Bowness said. “He would be very doubtful for tomorrow and maybe hopeful for Saturday. He’s more day-to-day.”

Dubois missed Tuesday’s 6-5 shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings after leaving Monday’s practice early.

Meanwhile, after being re-evaluated on Wednesday, the hope is Mason Appleton will be back on the ice Monday for the Jets.

Bowness said Appleton, who was placed on injured reserve on Friday, will not factor into Winnipeg’s home-and-home with the Oilers.

Appleton’s IR designation is retroactive to Sunday, and cannot be pulled off IR for seven days from that time.

The Jets recalled Axel Jonsson-Fjallby on an emergency basis on Friday. It’s still unclear if he will play, or if the Jets will welcome back David Gustafsson from injury.

“That’s an option,” Bowness said. “You’ll know better at 3 p.m. tomorrow by the time we put the roster in, then you’ll know a lot of the answers to your questions.”

Gustafsson last suited up for the Jets on Jan. 10 at Detroit. He’s been dealing with an upper-body ailment but has practiced with the team in a regular jersey now for more than a week.

The Jets dressed 11 forwards and seven defencemen on Tuesday, but Bowness is looking to avoid that again, he said.

Article content Home or away on trade deadline day?

The Jets play on the road Friday, with puck drop scheduled just hours after the trade deadline begins.

Ideally, NHL teams would get the day off, according to Dylan DeMelo.

“I, personally, would like to not have any games at all on the trade deadline, for just the guys who are dealing with it and stuff,” he said. “That would be my only complaint about it, just have everybody in their own hometowns or if you’re on the road, at least not having to play a game on trade deadline day. Just not having any games would be my answer.”
