A star-studded roster helped the team to hockey’s ultimate goal, with players like Brayden Point, Nikita Kucherov, Victor Hedman and Andrei Vasilevskiy leading the way.

Another player on that roster is Luke Schenn, who has some serious ties to British Columbia and the Okanagan.

Schenn not only played for the Vancouver Canucks last season, but he has an off-season home in Kelowna, where he played three seasons of junior hockey with the Rockets.

On Monday, he became the fifth former Rocket to win the Stanley Cup.

The other four are Scott Parker (2001 - Colorado), Travis Moen (2007 - Anaheim), Duncan Keith (2010, 2013, 2015 - Chicago) and Madison Bowey (2018 - Washington).

Who else has won you ask?

“I didn’t envision this last year after kind of going down to the minors for the first time in my career,” he told Scott Oake after the win. “I just had to battle and persevere.”

It’s the second straight year a Schenn has lifted the Stanley Cup, as Luke’s brother Brayden won it with the St. Louis Blues in 2019.

Luke, who’s nearly two years older than Brayden, told Oake how seeing his younger brother winning the cup last year made him so proud, but drove him to want to win one of his own.
