2024 GRAMMYs: Joni Mitchell Performs For The First Time ...

2024 GRAMMYs Joni Mitchell Performs For The First Time
"Started to cry, but then remembered I just won my first GRAMMY!" the pop superstar declared during the number.

Miley Cyrus brought her "Flowers" to the 2024 GRAMMYs stage with a triumphant performance of her global No. 1 — and freshly GRAMMY-winning — hit.

The superstar commanded the stage with effervescence for the TV debut of her self-love anthem, even interrupting her lyrics to playfully rib the audience by asking, "Why are you acting like you don't know this song?"

Then, just after declaring, "Started to cry, but then remembered I just won my first GRAMMY!" in the final chorus, Cyrus turned up the heat for a celebratory, uptempo coda.

"The reason I'm so excited when I get to sing this song live is 'cause I've literally only sang it live twice," she dished in the video introducing her performance. "Why I'm performing at the GRAMMYs: so I can lay in bed on February 5th and watch a video of myself performing at the GRAMMYs. That is, like, actually the most honest answer I can give you…When my future self looks back on this moment, she's gonna say, 'You look good.'"

It's no exaggeration to say that "Flowers" took the world by storm when Cyrus released it in the early weeks of 2023 as the lead single to her eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation. The self-love anthem rocketed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, reigned over the chart for eight non-consecutive weeks, and broke streaming records around the globe as it surged into the billions.

With such success, "Flowers" is one of the defining cultural touchstones of Cyrus' career. The pop superstar came into this year's GRAMMYs ceremony with six nominations under her belt, including Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year as well as Best Pop Vocal Album. Minutes before performing, Cyrus giddily accepted her very first GRAMMY from presenter Mariah Carey for Best Pop Solo Performance.

"Flowers" wasn't the only song off Endless Summer Vacation to earn recognition from The Recording Academy's voters, however — "Thousand Miles," Cyrus' rootsy duet with Brandi Carlile, was also nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
