WRPS campaign promotes positivity on Pink Shirt Day

The Waterloo Regional Police Service is inviting you to stand against bullying by wearing your best pink shirt Feb. 28.

They want the community to think, write and post positive thoughts in support of Pink Shirt Day which is an annual event against bullying. Participants wear pink shirts to raise awareness about bullying, particularly in schools.

Besides wearing a pink shirt, you can also write down messages of positivity and post them on social media using the hashtag #PostPositive.

Residents are encouraged to tag WRPS on social media with those messages, while some will be reposted through those channels for the community to see. Artwork or videos that promote positivity are also welcomed.

The theme for this year is “lift each other up.” Police want the community to band together to celebrate diversity and inclusion.

“Let’s lift each other up, not only today, but every day. It is important that we stand together and recognize the ways in which we can make a difference in the lives of those around us,” said Mark Crowell, the chief of police in a media release.

Pink Shirt Day first launched in Canada in 2007 and is held on the last Wednesday of February.
