As the writer, director and producer of Squid Game, a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show,” said Dong-Hyuk, who would then confirm several returns.

“And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su. Join us once more for a whole new round.”

Due to its critical and commercial success, the series earned three Golden Globe nominations, including South Korean veteran actor O Yeong-su winning Best Supporting Actor in a Series for his portrayal of Oh Il-nam/Player 001. It also made history by becoming the first non-English show to receive four major SAG nominations including Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor for Lee Jung-jae, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor for Jung Ho-yeon, Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble, and Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble.

Squid Game hails from writer-director Dong-Hyuk, who is best known for his work on South Korean films such as The FortressMiss Granny, and Silenced. It centers around a group of 456 cash-strapped players who accepted a strange invitation to compete in children’s games on a remote island in hopes of winning 456 billion won. However, they find out that the prize comes with deadly high stakes.
