Chad Johnson vs. Brian Maxwell results: Ochocinco holds his own early, gets knocked down late

Sporting News tracked live fight updates and round-by-round highlights from the Chad Johnson vs. Brian Maxwell fight. Check for complete results from the 2021 boxing exhibition, which is part of the Floyd Mayweather-Logan Paul undercard.

Chad Johnson held his own in his first boxing match.

The former NFL wide receiver showed off impressive footwork and even landed a few solid punches against Brian Maxwell early in the fight. But in the fourth and final round, Maxwell delivered a heavy right-handed shot for the fight's lone knockdown. Both fighters went the distance, and because it was an exhibition match, no winner was declared.

Still, Johnson, after what will likely be the only fight of his career, came away confident in his ability.

MAYWEATHER-LOGAN PAUL: Live updates, highlights from card

"I think I'm ready for [Conor] McGregor," he joked after the fight.

Maxwell left the ring feeling as if he put himself on the map. He had gone 2-3 in MMA fights and was 0-3 in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship matches before fighting Johnson.

"Ask the world who Brian Maxwell is now. Brian Maxwell is here," he said.

Johnson, who trained with Jermell and Jermall Charlo, twin brothers who are a combined 65-1 in professional boxing, danced around the ring early and got in a strike. But after quieter second and third rounds, Maxwell wore down his idol, knocking him down with the hardest punch of the night.
