Eric Adams announces new appointments ahead of NYE ball drop

Mayor-elect Eric Adams named the heads of city agencies on tourism, school construction, small business and immigrants Friday — shortly before he was scheduled to be sworn in as the Big Apple’s 110th mayor at the Times Square ball drop.

Two of the appointees are holdovers from Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration.

Longtime NYC & Company president Fred Dixon will stay on in his role leading the city’s official tourism marketing organization. Before joining NYC & Company as a vice president in 2005, Dixon worked Planet Hollywood International and Delta Airlines.

Nina Kubota, who was first named to the position by Mayor de Blasio in April, will be reappointed as CEO of the New York City School Construction Authority. Kubota has worked for the agency in different capacities since 1998.

The remaining two appointments are new to city government.

Adams’ pick to run the Department of Small Business Services is Kevin Kim, the first Korean-American to hold the post. Kim is an attorney specializing in New York State liquor license matters. He previously served as a State Liquor Authority commissioner.

Manny Castro, head of the Queens nonprofit New Immigrant Community Empowerment, will be the first Mexican-American to helm the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs.

“We are building a team that looks like New York City, cares about New York City, and understands the needs of New York City’s diverse communities,” Adams said in a statement about the appointments.

“These fine public servants embody the best our city has to offer – and I look forward to working with them to create a city that works for all New Yorkers,” Adams said.
