It's the first day of school!
Summer's farewell has arrived for many families in west-central Saskatchewan, as students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 went back to class on Tuesday.
Kindersley had three different back-to-school days with Westberry Elementary School, Elizabeth Middle School, and Kindersley Composite School students showing up for the first day.
As you can see in the title photo above, the Kindersley Jr. Klippers were on hand at Elizabeth to dish out some fist bumps to kids entering their first day.
Elizabeth vice-principal Cam Aitken was also outside greeting kids for the first day. Students had a soft start to the year with their "backpack day" last week.
"Just gave kids the opportunity to come in, meet their teacher, see their classroom. Drop some supplies off so they aren't carrying backpacks full of stuff when they come for the first day of school."
Aitken and company want to hit the school year running, and school sports starting as early as the first day are a good way to get the ball rolling.
"We start with football today, pretty sure volleyball will be starting today or tomorrow. Cross country, golf, those will have to get started soon. A lot of things get started."
Across the block at the high school was another kind of first day. Kindersley Composite School received their new crop of Grade 9 students, like Rylan Ginther who shared his feelings heading into a new school.
"I'm pretty excited." said Ginther when asked if he was nervous." I mean, new school, get to try a bunch of new things."
KCS staggered their starts for the first day. Grade 9 and 10 students in Kindersley were in class in the morning, while the seniors started their school year in the afternoon.
