Welcome to Sportstar’s Highlights of the fourth T20I between India and England happening in Pune on Friday.

Match Report

England started the match on a high – with Saqib Mahmood scalping three India batters in his first over – second of the match – also a maiden. England also finished the innings on a high, with India losing three wickets in the last over. For most of the 17 overs in between, however, the allrounder duo of Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya ruled the roost to ensure India set England a respectable target.

Despite Ben Duckett getting England off to a flier and Harry Brook starting to cut loose in the latter half, the spin twins of Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakravarthy then shut the door on England at the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium here on Friday night to give India an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series.

Arshdeep with the 18th. Strong start to the over. Four singles from the first four balls. Arshdeep goes full for the final ball and Adil Rashid gets it over mid wicket for a fence.

Bishnoi misses his length. Too full and Overton whacks it over long on for a six. Bishnoi responds by castling Archer with a googly.

Varun strikes twice

Harry Brook falls immediately after he gets to his fifty. Attempts a scoop and gifts an easy catch to Arshdeep at short fine leg. Harry Brook c Arshdeep Singh b Varun 51 (26b 5x4 2x6).

Harshit Rana continues. Two dot balls to start with. On the pads to Brook and its is flicked away for an easy six. Brook goes for it again. Smashes one over long on for another six.

Harshit Rana strikes

Bishnoi strikes

Ravi Bishnoi strikes with the last ball of the PowerPlay. Forces a miscue off Duckett and results in an easy catch for Suryakumar. Ben Duckett c Yadav b Ravi Bishnoi 39 (19b 7x4 1x6). ENG 62/1 in 6 overs

Duckett brings out the sweep against Axar and adds another four. Now another reverse sweep. Another four. Reverse sweep again. This time the connection is better. SIX!!

Overton with the last over. He dismisses Axar Patel off the second ball. Arshdeep sacrifices his wicket to get Dube on strike. But, Overton uses the short ball to good effect to close out the over. Just three runs from the over.

Rinku departs

Adil Rashid strikes

England sets up a leg-side heavy field and Suryakumar Yadav plays right into it. Chips one straight down the throat of short mid wicket. Suryakumar Yadav c Carse b Mahmood 0 (4b 0x4 0x6). Triple wicket maiden. IND 12/3 in 2 overs.

India vs England 4th T20I Preview

Rinku’ Singh’s availability for the penultimate rubber of the five-match series between India and England, to be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association’s stadium in Pune, was on top of everyone’s mind.

India had a reason to smile on the eve of the match when the left-handed batter stepped on to the field for the warm-ups. By the time Ryan ten Doeschate, the assistant coach, confirmed his availability for Friday’s game and returned to the field, Rinku was already batting in the nets.

Rinku’s addition as a finisher will certainly help the India think-tank to persist with its obsession of left- and right-hand combination at the crease. More importantly, it will give Hardik Pandya a much-needed support in the role of a finisher. Rinku’s ability to clear the field under pressure will mean Hardik can also free his arms up more often that he did in Rajkot.

If Rinku manages to stave off the fiery challenge of Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, India will in all likelihood be able to travel to Mumbai with yet another home series win, with a match to spare.

While Rinku is likely to replace Dhruv Jurel – who was wasted at No. 8 in the last match – India will be hoping for Mohammed Shami to get into even better rhythm with the ball. With an eye on the Champions Trophy, India will want Shami to keep building towards the bigger challenge.

England, meanwhile, will be hoping to crack the Varun Chakravarthy riddle before time runs out. Unless Jos Buttler and Co. manages to save its wickets, it will have an uphill task to keep the series alive.
