Pirlo: 'Juventus accept risks'
Andrea Pirlo is ready to ‘take risks’ in order for Juventus to learn on the job after a 1-1 draw with Crotone. ‘It’ll be a battle, but I’m confident we’ll end up on top.’
It was a disappointing result and performance for the Bianconeri, who had to get back on track after Simy’s opening penalty, Alvaro Morata turning in the Federico Chiesa assist.
However, Chiesa was then shown a straight red card for his challenge on Luca Cigarini in the 1-1 draw.
“Unfortunately, we went down to 10 men in the last two games because of our errors, but we are a young team that needs to work and there hasn’t been much time for that with so many internationals,” the coach told DAZN.
“Young players need to gain experience by playing in matches and it can happen that they make naïve errors as part of the learning process.
“We built a team with quality, but it is still a work in progress and needs time. The lads will learn through mistakes, unfortunately that also means taking a few risks in the early matches of the season.”
There were tactical changes too with Cristiano Ronaldo, Weston McKennie, Alex Sandro, Aaron Ramsey and Paulo Dybala out of action, so Chiesa was thrown straight into the XI for his debut.
“We had very little time to practice, we had a first training session all together yesterday. We have players like Chiesa and Morata who attack the space, so the idea was to find passes between the lines, and that is how the goal was created.
“We made a few mistakes in the timing of the press, but as I said, these things happen when we’re still getting the machine oiled. We only really spent half-an-hour on this tactical movement in training yesterday, so it will improve.
“There are some positions to seek, Dejan Kulusevski can search for the right position based on the situation and naturally he likes to cut inside on to his favoured left foot.
“Arthur comes from Spanish football, so he tends to pass it short and slows the tempo, whereas in Italy we’re more about vertical passes and quickly seeking the through ball. We’re working on it and he will adapt with time.”
Milan are now top of the table with a 100 per cent record, followed by Atalanta on nine, Juve and Napoli eight, then Inter on seven.
“We knew there would be a lot of teams fighting for the Scudetto who invested heavily. It’ll be a battle, we will fight it out point by point. We’ve dropped a few already, but I am confident we’ll end up on top again.”
