5 things to know about Ludvig Aberg, including fast PGA Tour rise

Since leaving Texas Tech to head to the pros, Ludvig Aberg has made an instant splash on the PGA Tour. Here are five things to know about one of the newest names in golf...

First major appearance

This week’s Masters is the first major appearance of Aberg’s career. After going over par on Thursday (+1), the 24-year-old put back-to-back rounds under par on Friday and Saturday to steadily climb the leaderboard, and stay within striking distance of his first green jacket.

How he got here

After a pair of dominant seasons at Texas Tech, Aberg finished No. 1 in the 2023 PGA Tour University Ranking. The distinction earned the Eslov, Sweden native PGA Tour membership for the remainder of 2023 season as well as the 2024 season. He was also ranked as the world’s No. 1 amateur.

Texas Tech accolades

Aberg won just about every major award college golf had to offer.

As a senior, he swept the Jack Nicklaus Award, the Fred Haskins Award and the Ben Hogan Award. He joined John Rahm as the only player to repeat as the winner of the Ben Hogan Award.

He won a program-record eight times while at Texas Tech, and became the first golfer to win back-to-back Big 12 Conference Championship titles in both 2022 and 2023.

Ryder Cup participant

Putting a stamp on his rapid rise in the golf world, Aberg earned a spot on Europe’s Ryder Cup team last year just three months after turning professional.

First PGA Tour win

A few months later, Aberg added to his astonishing rookie season when he won the RSM Classic in Nov. 2023, his first PGA Tour title to go along with a European tour victory and a winning debut in the Ryder Cup.
