Lewis Hamilton closes in on Michael Schumacher record with sixth F1 title
Lewis Hamilton secured his sixth F1 title at the US Grand Prix on Sunday after finishing second at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas, collecting his third consecutive title in the process.
The Brit only needed to finish in the top eight if teammate Valtteri Bottas came first and very nearly snatched the race win in a frantic finale.
Hamilton’s championship victory means he is now outright second in the all-time list of most Formula One titles, just one behind Michael Schumacher’s long-standing record of seven.

‘Still we rise,’ said Hamilton over the radio after sealing second spot and the championship. ‘What an incredible weekend. Thank you so much for today, thank you everybody that came out.
‘I can’t believe it, I really can’t believe it. Thank you so much.’
