National Indigenous Peoples Day
Statement by the Prime Minister on National Indigenous Peoples Day
Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we celebrate the rich histories, traditions, and cultures of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis from coast to coast to coast. National Indigenous Peoples Day is celebrated on the summer solstice – the longest day of the year. It is a time to recognize and honour the contributions and achievements of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
This day is an opportunity for all Canadians to learn about and appreciate the diverse cultures and languages of Indigenous peoples. It is a time to reflect on the past and look towards the future with hope and reconciliation. Let us come together to celebrate the resilience and strength of Indigenous communities across the country.
