8-hour power outage planned for Caledonia Saturday night CBC ...

Hydro One is planning an eight-hour power outage in the Caledonia area on Saturday night to replace "critical equipment," according to local municipalities and police.

The outage at the Caledonia Transmission Station will take place from 10 p.m. on June 3 to roughly 6 a.m. on June 4.

Ontario Provincial Police say it will impact roughly 8,100 customers.

The Hydro One power outage map shows it will impact areas between Caledonia and Cayuga, as well as most of Six Nations of the Grand River, some of Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and the Middleport area.

Hydro One said the best way to use the map is on desktop or through the app and people must click the "future planned outages" button to see the area.

"The service interruption will allow Hydro One employees to do project work to improve local transmission infrastructure in the Caledonia area," police said in a media release.

Municipal water service won't be impacted, according to the county, but people with private water treatment systems should check their equipment when the power is restored before using any water.

The municipality also said drivers should treat intersections with non-functioning stoplights as four-way stops.

Six Nations of the Grand River said the outage won't stop a viewing party of Game 1 of the NHL Stanley Cup final on Saturday.

A media release stated the watch party at The Gathering Place will open doors at 7:15 p.m. and start at 8 p.m.

It will be powered by a generator if need be so people can watch the Florida Panthers take on the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

Panthers defenceman Brandon Montour grew up partly in Six Nations. Waterdown's Carter Verhaeghe is also on the team as a forward and Zach Whitecloud, from Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, is on the Golden Knights.

Six Nations also said Hydro One has reached out to customers who will be affected by the power outage.

Police and Haldimand County are offering tips for residents including:

• Turn off appliances like the stove.
• Ensure cell phones and battery packs are fully charged.
• Keep fridge and freezer doors closed and use a cooler with ice for items you need during the outage.
• If using a generator, keep it away from dry, outdoor areas and away from open windows, doors and vents.
• Use flashlights or battery-operated lanterns instead of candles. If using candles, place them in a secure holder and cover them with a glass chimney, away from children and pets.
• Ensure you have a working battery-operated smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms.
• Have non-perishable foods on hand that do not require cooking and a 72-hour emergency kit.
