Canucks' Quinn Hughes a game-time decision vs. Red Wings

It's been a roller coaster for the Vancouver Canucks of late, and Sunday's game could be another drop.

In a press conference on Saturday, general manager Patrik Allvin said that captain Quinn Hughes is a game-time decision for the team's game against the Detroit Red Wings.

He told reporters that he did not practise on Saturday morning.

The Norris Trophy winner was in visible discomfort while skating in the third period of Friday's loss to the Dallas Stars. Hughes finished the game but only skated 23:26, down from his season average by nearly two minutes.

After the game, Hughes didn't reveal much about the injury when speaking with Sportsnet's Dan Murphy.

"We'll see, I now have 48 hours to figure it out so we'll see how it goes," Hughes said.

Hughes has once again been the MVP for the Canucks through the first half of the season. He leads both his team and all NHL defencemen in scoring with 59 points through 47 games.

Additionally, Allvin said that forward Kiefer Sherwood is also a game-time decision with an undisclosed injury. He added that the availability of new acquisitions Marcus Pettersson, Filip Chytil and Drew O'Connor are coach Rick Tocchet's decision.

Victor Mancini, the defenceman acquired from the New York Rangers in the J.T. Miller trade, will head to Abbotsford to play with the team's American Hockey League affiliate.

The Canucks return home and welcome the Detroit Red Wings to Rogers Arena on Sunday night.
