Raptors waive centre Bruno Fernando open up roster spot
The Toronto Raptors have opened up a roster spot. Shortly after Monday's loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, the Raptors announced that they have waived centre Bruno Fernando.

A day after Monday's loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, the Raptors announced that they have waived centre Bruno Fernando.

Fernando was on a non-guaranteed contract, which would have become fully guaranteed on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old centre appeared in 17 games for the Raptors this season and averaged 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 rebounds over an average of 8.6 minutes per contest.

Fernando was originally drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round (34th overall) of the 2019 NBA Draft. Over 220 career games with the Raptors, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets, the Angolan centre has averaged 4.0 points and 3.2 rebounds.

The move opens up about $1 million under the luxury tax line should the Raptors look to take on money in a trade while opening up a spot on the roster.

Sportsnet's Michael Grange reported Monday that the expectation is that the Raptors will keep their now vacant roster spot open, and use it on 10-day contracts in the short term.
