What to know about ‘Reacher’ season 3 

Reacher season 3 follows retired military police officer Reacher as he steps in to prevent the kidnapping of college student Richard Beck (Johnny Berchtold) in Maine. What starts as a heroic act quickly unravels into a deeper mystery involving Richard’s father, Zachary Beck (Anthony Michael Hall), and a DEA investigation into a dangerous smuggling operation.

“One thing I’ll say that I’ve really taken charge of is the action,” Ritchson told Forbes of the upcoming season. “I was really unhappy with the action in Season 2—the way that it was cut with some of the fights that we had. I didn’t like the way that it was directed. [I said], ‘I think we can do better in Season 3.’”

“And I think we succeeded. I think that was really the focus of our attention in Season 3 and it looks and feels a lot better to me this year, and I think hopefully audiences can enjoy that.”

‘Reacher’ season 3 is based on Lee Child’s ‘Persuader’

Reacher season 3 is an adaptation of Persuader, the seventh book in Lee Child’s bestselling Jack Reacher series. Originally published in 2003, Persuader sees Reacher drawn into a covert mission filled with twists, deception and high-stakes action.

Before the Amazon Prime Video series, a 2012 movie adaptation starring Tom Cruise was released, but it wasn’t nearly as successful as Ritchson’s portrayal. 

“Each reader reads the book alone. It’s their personal possession, and they have their own idea of what Reacher should be like. Therefore, it’s up to them to say whether they liked it or not,” Child told the Toronto Sun in 2022. “We were lucky to get Alan [Ritchson] to do it. The audience is going to have their own chance to make up their mind, but I’m guessing—because I’m the guy who invented the character— the audience is going to agree.”

Reacher season 3 is expected to air every Thursday on Amazon Prime Video through March 27, 2025. There will be eight total episodes, with the first three dropping today, Thursday, February 20.

‘Reacher’ season 1 recap

In season 1—released in 2022—Jack is arrested for a murder he didn’t commit in Maragrove, Georgia, and teams up with Chief Detective of Margrave PD Oscar Finlay (Malcolm Goodwin) and Roscoe Conklin (Willa Fitzgerald) to help try and clear his name. Neither of these characters appeared in season 2, and it is unclear if they will appear in season 3, despite Fitzgerald wanting to. 

“I’m as much in the dark as anyone else, but I love playing that character, and I loved getting the chance to help initiate the Reacher television universe,” the actress told Forbes in 2024. “It was a lot of fun to take on and I have a lot of respect for Nick Santora, the showrunner, and I still watch the show. I love watching the show and am excited to see where it goes from here.”

‘Reasher’ season 2 recap

Then, in season 2—which aired from 2023 to 2024—Jack ventures to New York City after being told that a member of his 110th Special Investigations unit has been murdered. Desperate to learn what happened, he and Frances Neagley (Maria Sten) do what they do best: investigate.

“She’s [Frances] someone who stays mostly to herself and is focused on work,” Sten told Creative Screenwriting in 2024. “She has this relationship with Reacher, which has always been the same. They’re there for each other, no matter what happens. There are bigger things at stake for her in the second season because it has to do with her old army unit, people she considers family.” 

Sten is expected to return for season 3 of the show. 

Will there be a ‘Reacher’ season 4?

Reacher has been confirmed for a fourth season by Amazon Prime Video, but its plot and release date remain a mystery. 

The streaming service is also set to release a spin-off show centering around Maria Sten as Frances Neagley and will follow her as she investigates the murder of an old friend. As of publication, the show doesn’t have a title or release date.
