Tornado warning issued for Fort Saskatchewan and North ...

A tornado warning that issued for parts of Alberta near Fort Saskatchewan Friday evening has now come to an end.

That has been replaced by a severe thunderstorm warning, which meteorologists say could produce strong wind gusts, nickel to ping pong ball size hail and heavy rain.

The thunderstorm warning issued around 5:15 p.m. was in response to severe storms near Lamont moving northeast at 15 km/h.

“Large hail can damage property and cause injury,” the warning reads. “Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.”

“Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.”

Environment Canada issues the warnings when thunderstorms are likely to being large hail, strong wind or torrential rainfall.
