Wind warning issued as storm expected to sweep across Victoria ...

A strong wind warning has been issued for Victoria, as well as some other regions of Vancouver Island and the mainland. 

At around 4:50 a.m. on Friday, October 15th a wind warning was issued by Environment Canada. 

They say it will impact Greater Victoria, the Southern Gulf Islands, East Vancouver Island from Nanoose Bay to Campbell River and Metro Vancouver.

The expected peak winds will be southeast winds, gusting up to 90 km/h over exposed coastal locations. 

“A frontal system will move across the South Coast tonight bring [sic] a period of brief, but strong, gusty winds to the region,” said Environment Canada in their warning advisory. 

“The strongest winds will begin near midnight and end by early Saturday morning with peak wind gusts of 90 km/h expected over exposed coastal locations. Metro Vancouver should see the strongest winds over areas near Boundary Bay.”

Environment Canada says these heavy, gale-force winds should begin late on Friday and dissipate by Saturday Morning. 

They added that residents of impacted regions should be aware of the hazards—high winds may cause tree branches to break or power outages to occur.

Apart from the wind warning this evening, Greater Victoria’s forecast calls for a partly cloudy Friday and a 40% chance of showers on Saturday.

Saturday’s rain will extend into Sunday and showers can be expected to continue straight through until Tuesday. 

Despite the rain, highs for the weekend are expected to be around 13°C while lows will hover down around 9°C.
