Chiefs wide receiver making Bills pay for draft trade in AFC
The Chiefs traded with the Bills to select Xavier Worthy in the draft and he had a touchdown and incredible catch in the AFC Championship Game.

The Buffalo Bills didn't think Xavier Worthy was worthy of their No. 28 pick in the draft.

He's making them pay in the AFC Championship Game.

Worthy, who the Kansas City Chiefs selected after a draft-day trade with the Bills in April, had a huge first half on Sunday.

Worthy, 21, caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to give the Chiefs a 14-10 lead in the second quarter. He made a spectacular catch on Kansas City's next possession.

Kansas City faced third-and-5 from the Bills' 29-yard line. Mahomes fought off pressure from defensive end Dawuane Smoot, and launched a pass near the right sideline as he was being taken down by his legs. Worthy and safety Cole Bishop each leaped for the ball. It appeared Bishop had the interception in the air but the advantage flipped to Worthy as he came down on his back cradling the ball.

It was ruled a 26-yard completion. Bills head coach Sean McDermott challenged the call and the play was upheld.

Mahomes scrambled for a 1-yard touchdown three plays later to put Kansas City ahead 21-10. Buffalo scored a touchdown with 23 seconds left in the first half to cut its deficit to 21-16.

Worthy had five catches for 62 yards and a touchdown and two carries for 16 yards in the first half.

Bills and Chiefs 2024 draft trade

Buffalo entered the 2024 NFL Draft with the No. 28 overall pick. They traded down with Kansas City for the No. 32 pick. The Bills then traded down from No. 32 with the Carolina Panthers for the No. 33 pick. Buffalo selected wide receiver Keon Coleman with the first pick of the second round at No. 33.

Here was the Bill and Chiefs trade:

Bills receive:

  • Round 1, No. 32, traded to Panthers for No. 33 and took WR Keon Coleman
  • Round 3, No. 95: DT DeWayne Carter
  • Round 7, No. 221: OT Travis Clayton

Chiefs receive:

  • Round 1, No. 28: WR Xavier Worthy
  • Round 4, No. 133: S Jaden Hicks
  • Round 7, No. 248: G C.J. Hanson

Xavier Worthy stats

Worthy played in all 17 games in his rookie season, finishing with 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns. He had 20 carries for 104 yards in three touchdowns.

Xavier Worthy 40 time

Worthy holds the fastest 40-yard time at the NFL Combine at 4.21 seconds. It broke John Ross' previous record of 4.22 seconds in 2017.

Xavier Worthy salary
