MacKenzie Scott is now the world's wealthiest woman thanks to her divorce settlement from Jeff Bezos
Hours after their statement was released, Bezos’s relationship with former news anchor Lauren Sanchez was confirmed. According to the Enquirer, the couple began dating shortly after he and Scott separated and still remain together.
In a July blog post, Scott wrote that she donated US$1.7 billion of her wealth in the past year to several different causes including racial equality, LGBTQ rights, public health and climate change. In a post on her Medium account, she wrote, “there’s no question in my mind that anyone’s personal wealth is the product of a collective effort, and of social structures which present opportunities to some people, and obstacles to countless others.”
However as the value of her Amazon stake grew, Scott earned the money back by the end of the same week.
In 2019, Scott also signed on to the Giving Pledge initiative, which encourages the richest people in the world to donate a majority of their wealth to charity organizations. Jeff Bezos has not signed the pledge.
Scott now ranks behind several other known tech and business moguls such as Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
According to the Business Insider, the 16 richest Americans in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index and Forbes Billionaires List are collectively worth more than US$1 trillion.
