Extreme cold warning and snow squall warning issued for region
Environment Canada warns of periods of intense snowfall expected on Thursday, alongside a blast of arctic air in the evening

It'll be a blustery and cold few days ahead for Waterloo Region and Wellington County - as Environment Canada has now issued a snow squall warning alongside a previously announced extreme cold warning.

Beginning early Thursday evening, the weather agency warns of periods of brief but intense snowfall expected to develop, which could result in sudden and significant reductions to visibility.

We're also being warned of wind chill values as low as -30 on Thursday night through to Friday morning, prompting that previously mentioned extreme cold warning.

Environment Canada said those conditions are expected to become more moderate throughout the day on Friday, though wind chills may reach -30 again on Friday night early into Saturday morning.

Residents are encouraged to cover up if travelling during that period, as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Things are expected to warm up Saturday with a high of -5, then plus 1 by Sunday.
